Update qmail-scanner brokes the mail

i did aa update qmail-scanner but it broked the mail:

if i don't remove qmail scanner my server will be broke and need a reboot

Any solotion because i had removed my qmail scanner my mail isn't working anymore

Ok first of all....

I have the same problem. Ever since I installed qmail scanner I can't remove it.
If you remove it it breaks the qmail mailserver and whatever you do it wont fix. I did anything you can imagine.
So you are one more hostage of the qmail scanner. Reinstall it and workaround with the qmail scanner config file. I disabled one or two things and I got it running normally ...

Also just today I had to update it because together with clamd it took all the resources of the system causing a load of 88 yes that is correct 88 and everything went down. I had to login using serial console to kill the damn proccesses of perl used by qscand.

Now things have gone back to normal. I hope I don't have a problem again.

I regret the day and the moment I installed the damn thing.

I also asked from scott and mike on an older post to tell me a way of uninstalling this thing without breaking the mailserver but they didn't get back to me.

I think this programm is even worse than microsoft windows :shock:

That would be: yum remove qmail-scanner. And if that doesn't work I'd need to know what the error is.

Thanks for replying. I had a ticket opened in the past about that.
If I uninstall the qmail scanner then the mailserver will not send emails from web, will not accept connections to smtp and generally it generates many errors and goes bad.

I can give you access if you want to take a look at it as well. I am afraid to attempt to uninstall it again because last time it caused me a chaos.
Maybe qmail scanner is a good app since it scans the emails but I feel it needs in our cases further documentation and search in what happens and conflicts with plesk.

Generally it is annoying that all servers by default send dozens of emails with errors every day especially with the emails.
I get all kinds of error about the email queue, spamassassin, qmail scanner. My own boxes are spamming me !

I never even understood why this errors occur and I am sure I am not the only one having these errors. Anyone who has plesk and asl installed together surely gets these errors.

While if the system has no plesk installed and ASL no errors !

We know asl rules. And we know plesk has very deep issues with its own existense.
If you could help us manage, solve some minor problems like this which are lying around for a heck of a long time it would have been awesome.

I had to remove qmail scanner and reinstalled gmail after that i did a upgrade again and it seems to be ok!
The only thing is before the update everything was ok after the update i have to to reinstall qmail and qmailscanner.
That's not how i like to see a update

Its been almost a year. If I remember correctly when I removed qmail scanner you couldnt send messages and there was a queue write error or something like that. The same problem was existing both for webmails which would return failure and the error was shown when you were trying to send an email through outlook.

Uninstalling and reinstalling qmail didnt fix the problem. Neither fixing all permissions of qmail. Neither swapping to postfix and back to qmail. Nothing fixed the problem. I was trying for 2 days to find a solution back then.

Also it was checking mime types which caused almost all mails not to be able to be sent and marked them as bad but i disabled this from the conf and solved that problem.

Finally its been a year in which there are around 20-30 emails from ossec per day with hundreds of error lines some examples are :

I also experienced a similar problem trying to uninstall qmail-scanner. Unfortunately, it was always over a year ago now so I don't have anything specific.

The difference for me, was that switching to Postfix and then back to Qmail fixed my problem.

Did you check to make sure this wasnt a Plesk included condition? I distinctly recall a Parallels update that caused this many years ago.

Yeah I know for a fact the Illegal Seek error message is coming from the plesk handler system, qmail-scanner is just in a place to report the message.

Thanks for the replies once again.

Well I tried about 2 or 3 patches parallels dispatched which were supposed to fix such errors that I experience. I downloaded a different queue file and changed it with the original according to the patches and instructions.
Offcourse as I said I don't actually remember which ones I tried but again this didn't resolve my problem.
Thank god I had the original queue file since parallels patches wouldn't do anything more than totally destructing the mail server.

Weird. I tried this switching at least 5 times. I was in a paranoid state of mind back then.
Ahmmm ... Were you back then using greylisting ?
I had greylisting enabled before even installing the qmail scanner.
