[+] Enabled safebrowsing by default in freshclam template

The comment for the SafeBrowsing setting in /etc/freshclam.conf says:

Quote:
When using this option, it's mandatory to run freshclam at least every 30 minutes.

Looking at /var/log/clamav/freshclam.log* it looks like freshclam is run daily (by /etc/cron.daily/freshclam) instead of at least every 30 minutes.

Personally I'd say "mandatory" was probably a bad translation or poor choice of word, and it should have been "recommended". 30 minutes seems too frequent to me?

Well, it does seem like the SafeBrowsing rules are moving a lot faster than the other rulesets (quite a number of diffs are downloaded daily).

I could see the malware sites in googles blacklist changing very quickly. We've added this to the list for the next clamav update.

Is it possible to switch off safebrowsing?
I couldn't find an option in ASL Gui.
Editing fresclam.conf with commenting out or setting to no will be overwritten.
Thanks

Yeah, my attempts at freshclam typically die with

Downloading safebrowsing-21212.cdiff [100%]

Then it just sits there and I have to kill it to get out.

Change the ASL template file:

/var/asl/data/templates/template-freshclam.conf

Then run:

asl -s -f

I saw a machine that appeared to hang on the exact same cdiff. Running strace on the pid showed the process was still doing stuff though. Apparently there is a bug in ClamAV which causes some cdiffs to take very long to apply: https://wwws.clamav.net/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2017
