Hi,

Every since I upgrade to centos 5.3 I see duplicates when running top -c like:
Quote:
[migration/0]
3 root 34 19 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.13 [ksoftirqd/0]
4 root RT -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [watchdog/0]
5 root RT -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [migration/1]
6 root 34 19 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.64 [ksoftirqd/1]
7 root RT -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [watchdog/1]
8 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.03 [events/0]
9 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.12 [events/1]
10 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [khelper]
11 root 11 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [kthread]
15 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:02.17 [kblockd/0]
16 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:03.28 [kblockd/1]
17 root 17 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [kacpid]
90 root 16 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [cqueue/0]
91 root 16 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [cqueue/1]
94 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [khubd]
96 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 [kseriod]
160 root 15 0 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:12.92 [pdflush]
161 root 15 0 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:21.17 [pdflush]

I don't have watchdog installed either.

It seems my load has also gone up and seems like a lot more spam. Getting this in the sanesecurity log:
Apr 09 06:18:17 WARNING - Failed rsync connection to NXDOMAIN reached - SKIPPED MSRBL updates

How would I fix this so there are not duplicates running?

Thanks!

Hi,

I had to reboot because the kernel was updated during the upgrade.

Those are not duplicates, those are threads. Notice that each one has a different pid.

Ok is this normal then?

8 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.03 [events/0]
9 root 10 -5 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.12 [events/1]

I never saw this before upgrading.

Yep. :-)

Do you have multiple cores or CPUs?

I have a P4 3.2.

Could you tell me if a Xeon dual 3.0 is faster than a P4 3.2?

Its probably hyperthreading on the P4.

A dual Xeon 3Ghz will be a *lot* faster.

However, in the hosting environment, the amount of memory and the speed of the disk is very important.
