After installiong ASL on a working CentOS 5.8_64 Xen HVM I get this error and eth0 won't start.

"Bringing up interface eth0: Device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization"

When I cnage back to the CentOS Kernel it boots correctly.

Is there some driver missing in the asl kernel 2.6.32.59-22.art.x86_64

Perhaps, what kernel module is your network card using?

Does your network get started on boot and are all modules loaded during boot, or is the interface started after S99 in the init process?

Hey,

Did you manage to get this solved? Typically it's the HWADDR entry. Here's a few commands and logs to look at, that you can try:

cd /sys/class/net; ls -al
/var/log/messages
/var/log/secure
/var/log/dmesg
lspci|grep Ethernet (lspci -s 03:00.00 -vvvv if your device is at that location)
ip -o link

Then you can set the HWADDR either by editing the sysconfig scripts or with the IP command. For some more in depth investigation notes something like this might help as well http://www.microdevsys.com/WordPress/2008/01/13/linux-networking-device-eth0-does-not-seem-to-be-present-delaying-initialization/

Cheers,

We couldn't run ASL kernel on CentOS 6.3 with Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 05). No driver in kernel. With default CentOS kernel is working fine. It seems no solution for this.
